And its incredibly long lamp life means it’s great value for money.

Bigger is better
Whether you’re watching your favorite film or delivering a presentation, this projector can achieve an impressive 378-inch display. It's great quality too, with 3LCD technology that makes the display up to three times brighter than competitor products¹, thanks to its bright and vivid colors. From family and friends to business colleagues and clients, it's sure to get everyone’s attention.

High-quality, bright images
Even in bright rooms, this powerful yet affordable WXGA projector delivers exceptionally bright yet colorful images with clear details. It's all thanks to 3LCD technology, which produces an equally high White and Colour Light Output of 3,000 lumens.

Long-lasting solution

At just 5.3 pounds and 3.4 by 11.6 by 8.3 inches (HWD), the CO-W01 is small enough to fit in a briefcase or backpack, but it could also wind up on a cart or permanently installed. The basic setup is quick and easy. Connect the power cable and video source, point it at the screen, turn it on, and adjust the focus. There is no optical zoom, so you'll need to move it closer to or farther from the screen to adjust image size unless you're willing to use digital zoom, which lowers brightness and can introduce artifacts.

The housing has only three connectors—one each for HDMI, USB-A, and USB-B—and all are on the left panel. The USB-A port can read files or update firmware from a flash drive, power a streaming stick connected to the HDMI port, accept an optional $120 Wi-Fi dongle, or connect to a document camera for classroom use. The USB-B port supports a USB display option for connection to PCs.

The CO-W01 fared well in our tests for typical business and education use. It delivered suitably crisp, readable text for its 1,280-by-800 pixel resolution and appropriate detail for an assortment of business graphics. It also offered nicely saturated, eye-catching color for graphics in most of its six color modes. The brightest mode, Dynamic, tended to wash out light blue slightly, and Vivid did the same with pale yellow, but I didn't see any hues wash out to the point of looking white, as with many projectors.

More importantly, there was no obvious color bias in any of the modes, which is a common fault with projectors' brightest modes. Most people will consider the Flex's color accuracy more than acceptable for graphics or even for presentations with photorealistic images, leaving you free to pick a mode based strictly on whether it's bright enough to stand up to the ambient light in the room at the image size you want. For the record, Presentation, Cinema, and sRGB modes delivered the best color saturation and accuracy in my tests, making them my recommendations for presentations.

For watching videos and films, the image quality is easily good enough for classroom use, short clips in a business presentation, or even for home entertainment (for casual viewers, not cinephiles). Color accuracy was good, but contrast was lacking, and none of the color modes handled dark scenes well. I found that sRGB mode did the best—or least bad—job of holding shadow detail in darker clips, making it my favorite for movies or videos. The black level was so high, and contrast so low, that the darkest scenes in our test suite had a foggy look that hid some detail I knew was there. However, I could see enough to make out what was happening.

Fortunately, most scenes in movies and videos aren't dark enough for shadow detail to be an issue, which means most people will consider Epson's overall image quality more than acceptable. Again, keep in mind that compared to the next step down in price—the best inexpensive home entertainment mini projectors—the CO-W01 offers roughly equivalent shadow detail plus noticeably better color accuracy and well over ten times the brightness in lumens.

Like most inexpensive LCD-based projectors, the EpiqVision Flex has no support for 3D. As usual for models with 720p or 1,280-by-800-pixel resolution, it offers no support for HDR or 4K input. Gamers should note that I measured the projector's input lag with a Bodnar meter at roughly 38 milliseconds (at 1080p and 60Hz), making it suitable for casual gaming only.
